How to choose swimwear

How we choose products: rows come from in-stock affiliate feeds that have a name, a price, and a photo when the shop sent one. We do not test the products, and a higher commission does not move a shop up the list.
Swimwear listings fail when a top is compared with a set, or a child’s costume with an adult one. Match the pieces and the size, then look at the price.
What the row actually contains
A one-piece, a bikini set, a top, a brief, and swim shorts are different products. The word swimsuit in a department name does not mean every row is a one-piece. Read the title. A ‘set’ that does not list both pieces is suspect. Open the shop.
Men’s swim shorts and women’s costumes share some feeds and should not share your comparison. Children’s sun suits are another list. If the title is silent on who it is for, do not guess from a cropped photo.
Size, support, and coverage
UK dress sizes, bra sizes, and waist sizes are different systems. A costume sold on a dress size is not comparable with one sold on a bra size until you know which system you wear. Brands do not agree with each other. We do not fit costumes.
Words like tummy control or chlorine resistant are the maker’s. They are meaningful only when you can read them on the shop page, not when a thumbnail looks sturdy. Lining is the same. If it matters, it has to be written down.
Returns, hygiene, and price
Many UK shops will not take swimwear back once a hygiene seal is broken or the garment is worn. That can make a ‘cheap’ experiment expensive. Read the returns line before you pay. The comparison page cannot see that policy inside the feed price.
A basic one-piece, a mid-priced set, and a dearer branded costume are different jobs. Compare like with like, including size. A smaller size at a lower price is not a deal on your size. Postage is extra.
Care and the catalogue
Rinse after a pool if the label says so. Do not tumble a costume because a photo looked sporty. Those are label instructions, not a test we ran. Colour from a screen is a weak match for a dye lot.
From our catalogue, open swimsuits and, for shorts, swim shorts. Leave a row whose photo and title disagree. Visit retailer is an affiliate hop to the shop. You pay their price, including any delivery they add.
How we choose products
FindAProduct lists swimwear that shops send through affiliate feeds and that still look in stock: a readable name, a price, and a photo when the merchant included one. We do not buy the products, wear them, or run them. We do not invent a winner.
Visit retailer is an affiliate link. The shop or the network may pay a commission if you buy. That payment is not added to the price, and it is not how we order the shops. If the live list is thin, this guide still explains the decision and the category page says what the feed currently has.
Chlorine, salt, and a costume’s ordinary life
Pool water and seawater are hard on elastane. A costume that bags at the leg after a season may be wear, not a fault, unless the shop described it as resistant and it failed immediately. Read that word on their page if you need it. We do not soak costumes in a pool and time the result.
Rinse and a gentle wash are the usual label advice. A hot tumble is a common way to ruin the fit. That is care, not a ranking of brands. If you need a rash vest for sun as well as a costume, it is a second product. Do not assume it is in the swimsuit price.
Men’s shorts and children’s suits
Swim shorts use waist sizes and sometimes a leg length. They are not a bikini brief. A children’s sunsuit with a flap is not an adult costume. If you are buying for a child, use the age and the height the shop prints, and remember age is a rough guide to size, not a promise.
UV claims on children’s swim are the maker’s claim. We do not test fabric in a lab. If that claim is why you are buying, read it on the shop page in a form you can keep, not only in a title adjective.
Using the swimsuit list
Open swimsuits for costumes and swim shorts for shorts. Do not bounce between them because one price is lower. Within costumes, group one-pieces away from separates in your own eye. Then match size. Only then is the lower feed price interesting.
A product page with several shops is the useful case. Compare the size string. If one shop’s title dropped the size, skip it or open the shop and confirm. Visit retailer is where colour and the hygiene-seal returns rule become visible. Budget for the chance you cannot send it back.
A last pass before you pay
Separate costumes from shorts, and adults from children, before price sort. A low figure at the top of a mixed list is usually the wrong garment. Match piece count and size, then consider the figure. One shop means one offer. The useful product page is the one where two shops kept the same size string.
On the shop site, read the hygiene and returns lines before you pay. Many will not take swimwear back. That risk is part of the price even though it is not in the feed. We do not fit costumes and we do not test chlorine resistance. If those words matter, they have to be printed by the shop. Visit retailer is only the hop.
Coverage and a strap style are visible in a decent photo and invisible in a blurry one. If you cannot see the back of a one-piece, you do not know the back. Open the shop’s gallery. A brief and a high-waist bottom that share a colour are still different fits. Write the shape down beside the size so a cheaper row cannot sneak in as the same costume.
For a holiday, buy earlier than the week you travel if the shop’s delivery is vague. The feed does not know your flight. A missing costume is a shopping problem, not a fault in the comparison. If you need a rash vest as well, it is a second row and a second price. Do not assume the swimsuit photograph included it. A second colour of the same cut is still a second product. Compare it only with the same size and the same piece count, then decide if the feed price is worth the returns risk the shop prints.
Details the feed leaves out
A second colour is a second product even when the cut matches. Write the cut next to the size so a cheaper brief cannot replace a one-piece in your notes. Rash vests and sun hats are extra rows. The feed price of the costume does not include them, and the photograph might.
Questions shoppers ask
Is a bikini top the set?
No. Match the pieces named in the title. A top alone is not the two-piece.
Can I return it?
Often not, once it is worn or a seal is open. Read the shop’s rule. We do not set it.
Do you fit the costumes?
No. We do not try swimwear or publish fit scores.
