How to compare a coat or jacket

How we choose products: rows come from in-stock affiliate feeds that have a name, a price, and a photo when the shop sent one. We do not test the products, and a higher commission does not move a shop up the list.
Coats and jackets are not one product. Match the season and the size before a price means anything.
Season first
A packable rain shell, a wool overcoat, and a padded winter jacket solve different days. Sorting them as one list of lowest price will pick the shell and call it a bargain coat. Decide which season you are buying for, then stay inside that type. Read the title for insulation, a fleece lining, or a waterproof claim. If those words are missing, the shop page has to say them. A dark photo of rain is not a specification.
A hood, a storm flap, and taped seams are written claims or they are absent. Do not add them because the coat looks serious. Women’s and men’s cuts can share the department. Check the fit words before you assume the coat is cut for you.
Waterproof is a word, not a picture
We do not stand in the rain in these coats. If you need a membrane, it has to be named. A resistant finish and a waterproof shell are different products. Match the word you actually need.
Size and length
Chest size and a short or long back change the coat. Brands do not share one idea of long. Read the shop’s size guide after you have matched the size in the title. A cheaper short length is the wrong coat if you wear a long back.
Sleeve length is easy to miss in a thumbnail. If you are between sizes, the returns rule matters more than a one-pound gap. Some shops will not take a coat back once it has been worn outside. Read that before you pay.
The feed price and the parcel
Coats are heavy and bulky. Postage can be larger than the gap you were comparing. The number on FindAProduct is the garment price from the feed. It is not the basket. Visit retailer, read delivery, and read who the seller is.
A price far below the others is often a different fill, a children’s size, or a shop you should not use. One shop is one offer. It can still be a fair buy. It is not a market. Commission does not order the list.
What is not in the box
A liner, a hood that zips off, and a spare stuff sack are included only when the title says so. A photo of a coat worn over a layer does not put that layer in the parcel.
A practical order
Write the season, the size, and whether you need a hood. Search waterproof jacket or open the coats department. Ignore rows that are a different season. Then compare shops on the coat that matches. If the list is thin, that is the feed today. Do not invent a second price by clicking a gilet.
Leave keyword titles and replica sports jackets. Leave a coat with no size. You can stop. A comparison that tells you the cheap row is a summer shell has done its job.
Fill, membrane, and a hood that might be extra
Insulation weight, a fleece lining, and a waterproof membrane are different claims. A coat can have one of them and not the others. Read the words that are present and do not promote a photo of rain into a specification. We do not wear the coats and we do not stand them in weather.
A hood that zips off, a liner, and a stuff sack are in the parcel only when the title or the contents list says so. A model shot of a coat worn over a mid-layer does not put that layer in the box. A packable shell and a padded jacket can share a brand. The packed size, if you care about a rucksack, has to be written down.
Women’s and men’s cuts can share the coats department. Check the fit words before you assume the coat is cut for you. A unisex label is the merchant’s filing, not a measurement we have checked.
Length, care, and the returns window
Short, regular, and long change the hem and often the sleeve. Brands do not share one idea of long. Match the word in the title, then the shop’s size guide. A cheaper short coat is the wrong coat if you wear a long back. Sleeve length is easy to miss in a thumbnail.
Washable and dry-clean-only are practical differences. The shop page should say which. We will not invent a care label. A wool coat and a synthetic padded jacket are not substitutes at the cleaner either. If you need a coat you can wash at home, the listing has to say so.
Some shops refuse a return once the coat has been worn outside. Read that before you pay if you are between sizes. A one-pound gap is smaller than a coat you cannot send back. The feed price will not mention the rule.
Postage and a thin list
Coats are bulky. Delivery can be larger than the gap between two feed prices. Open the shop you would actually use and read the basket, including a rural surcharge if they publish one. The number on FindAProduct is the garment.
The coats department is the right list when it has the season you want. A sports replica jacket is not a winter coat. Search waterproof jacket, or the garment type, when the department mixes shells with wool. Leave gilets if you needed a winter coat. Leave a row with no size. A thin list means the feed is thin today. Do not turn a summer shell into a winter coat because it was the cheapest card. If two shops use different photos for one name, open both and match the length and the fill before you treat the lower figure as the same coat. A hooded version and a version without a hood are different coats even when the colour matches.
