How to compare a baby monitor

How we choose products: rows come from in-stock affiliate feeds that have a name, a price, and a photo when the shop sent one. We do not test the products, and a higher commission does not move a shop up the list.
A baby monitor is either a listener or a camera with a screen. Match which one you need. The feed may only have a row or two.
Audio or video
An audio monitor and a video monitor are different products. A camera that needs your phone is a third kind. The department, when it has anything, is short, so search baby monitor as well. Read the title before you compare a price. A cheaper audio unit is not a discount on a screen.
A parent unit with a screen, a wall mount, and a second camera are often separate. The photo of a nursery may show a mount that is not in the box. Believe the contents list on the shop page. We do not install monitors and we do not claim a range in metres. If the title states a range, that figure is the maker’s, in their conditions.
Wi-Fi and a private unit
Some monitors talk only between two units. Some use your home Wi-Fi and an app. Those are different setups and different privacy questions. Read which one the row is. We do not configure the app and we do not tell you which is safer. If you do not want an account, do not buy the monitor that needs one.
What to match
Match audio against audio, or video against video. Match whether a camera, a parent unit, and a charger are included. A spare camera is not the kit. Battery life on the parent unit is a maker claim. Use it only to tell two listings of the same model apart, not as our test.
Night vision, a temperature display, and two-way talk are features only when they are written down. Do not infer them from a dark photo of a cot. If you need two cameras for two rooms, the title has to include the second camera or you are buying another one later.
The shop and the feed
A thin category is normal. One shop is one offer. Visit retailer opens that shop through an affiliate link. You pay them. Postage and the returns window are on their page. A monitor you have paired and used may be harder to return. Read that if you are unsure.
We do not watch through these cameras and we do not rank them by commission. If the only rows are accessories, a mount or a cable, they are not the monitor. Search again for the model if you already know it.
Not a medical device
A monitor is not a substitute for being in the room when you need to be, and it is not medical equipment. We will not describe it as one. Buy the communication tool you meant, and read the shop’s safety note.
When to leave
Leave a row that does not say audio or video. Leave a phone-app camera if you wanted a private parent unit, or the reverse. Leave a mount when you needed the monitor. If the model is absent, do not buy a similar-looking camera from a title you cannot read.
You can stop. An empty or tiny list means the feed has little to compare today. The checklist still stands for the shop you already use.
Three kinds of monitor
An audio monitor, a video monitor with its own parent screen, and a camera that needs your phone are three products. A cheaper audio unit is not a discount on a screen. The department, when it has anything, is often a row or two, so search baby monitor as well. Read the title before you compare a price.
Some units talk only to each other. Some use your home Wi-Fi and an app. Those are different setups and different questions about accounts and who can open the app. We do not configure them and we do not tell you which is safer. If you do not want an account, do not buy the monitor that needs one.
A parent unit, a camera, a wall mount, and a second camera are often sold separately. The photo of a nursery may show a mount that is not in the box. Believe the contents list. A spare camera is not the kit.
Range, mains, and night
A range in metres is the maker’s figure, in the conditions they chose. Walls and other wireless kit change it. We do not measure range and we will not repeat a metre claim as our own result. Use the number only to tell two listings of the same model apart.
The parent unit may be battery, mains, or both. A battery life figure is the maker’s. Match it only across the same model. Night vision, a temperature number, and two-way talk are features only when they are written down. A dark photo of a cot does not add them. If you need a camera in two rooms, the title has to include the second camera or you are buying another one later.
A monitor is not medical equipment and it is not a substitute for being in the room when you need to be. We will not describe it as either. Read the shop’s own safety note.
A short feed and the shop
One shop is one offer. Visit retailer opens it through an affiliate link. You pay the shop. Postage and the returns window are on their page. A monitor you have paired and used may be harder to return than a sealed box. Read that if you are unsure you have the right kind.
If the only rows are a mount, a cable, or a replacement battery, they are not the monitor. Search the model code if you already know it. Leave a row that does not say audio or video. Leave a phone-app camera if you wanted a private parent unit. An empty list means there is little to compare today. The same checklist still applies on a shop you already use.
